Type L-2A “SUPERIOR TOGS CORP. ORANGE RIB”

During the Korean War, the Type L-2A was adopted in the early 1950s as an improved model of the Type L-2. It was characterized by its use of the Air Force Blue, the symbolic color of the new Air Force, which was separated from the US Army Air Corps into the US Air Force, and its operating temperature range was assumed to be the light zone of 10°C to 30°C defined by the US Air Force. The clip mount tab for the oxygen mask hose was made of leather in the previous model L-2, but it was changed to a herringbone tape in the L-2A. The ribs of the L-2A are usually the same Air Force Blue as the body, but in rare cases the ribs were boldly converted to match the squadron color. Wearing the same jacket among the members of the unit also played a part in raising morale, as it asserted the proud unit.

Type N-3B “SLENDER ORIGINAL SPEC. BUZZ RICKSON MFG. CO.”

The N-3B is a highly perfected heavy-zone jacket that continues to have significant influence on civilian clothing. This single jacket consists of numerous materials and parts, the most of any flight wear. It is the result of pursuing a highly functional jacket for cold weather areas and is a product of none other than much research and numerous improvements. The military’ s official contract manufacturers at the time distributed highly stylish and functional flight wear for civilian use, which were eparate from official flight wear. This N-3B is a legendary model with original specs that contractor Buzz Rickson’ s released for civilian use. Made of the same materials and parts as the official jacket, this long-awaited N-3B is a slender type with a more fitted form.
