The M-1943 Field Jacket is the successor of the M-1941 and was developed to integrate the various field uniforms the US Army had adopted until then. The silhouette is relatively loose-fitting as it is designed to be layered to cope with all the possible situation. The buttons on the front placket and pocket flaps that fasten with buttons are of the concealed button design, thus avoiding snagging when wearing equipment over the jacket. The material is back-satin, a durable and water-resistant thick cotton satin, colored to olive drab to enhance the camouflage effect. The four front pockets are so large and capacious that a backpack is unnecessary if daily necessities are stored in them. The collar can be worn either open or closed, with the collar up and closed with a chinstrap, an excellent feature that shuts out wind. The basic design of the jacket was highly perfected and was succeeded by the M-51 and M-65 that were subsequently adopted.
