HEADLIGHT 8oz. SPECIAL WOVEN STRIPE DENIM WAIST OVERALLS

This season features woven stripe denim items, which were originally advertised in 1914 and are now almost non-existent in vintage collections. Rather than a print, the stripes are woven into the fabric, clearly positioning it as a competitor to Stifel’s Wabash stripes. An analysis was conducted using a fabric swatch attached to a novelty notebook distributed in retail stores. The fabric is made from No. 10 cotton thread in three colors—indigo, natural, and charcoal—woven in a left-hand twill.

Although this model has not been confirmed as part of Headlight’s line, it was based on Lot No.903 Pantaloon Overall, released by Crown Overalls, a company that later partnered with Headlight. The belt loops, introduced eight years earlier than the 501XX, are a notable feature. The silhouette is closer to overalls, with a wider cut, and the waist can be adjusted with a back strap. While the side seams are felled, hiding the selvedge, it can still be seen on the inside of the waistband pocket.
