The 2 Monkeys Sportif's spring 2023 seasonal leather is a wine red leather reminiscent of aged Bordeaux wine. Tanners in Tuscany, Italy
I selected the vacetta leather of Conceria 800 (Conceria Ottocento) and reminded me of a Russian calf (see the next page), but I embossed it with a diamond-shaped shib, which is much finer than that.
Vaketta leather is a leather made with a traditional manufacturing method handed down in Tuscany, and its origin can be traced back to around 800 A.D. It is said that the number 800 in the name of tanner also comes from this history. It is a leather made of tanned with vegetable tannins that penetrates animal oil such as fish oil and cow leg oil (neez foot oil) to the leather core, making it supple and sturdy. Vaketta leather, which is adult cow leather, has a much thicker silver layer (a layer with high fibre density on the surface of the leather) than the classic Sportif's black French calf (veal leather), and it is a leather with a stronger tension.
In addition, I also adjusted the thickness of the leather to make it a shoe, but it was set to be slightly thicker.
Compared to the classic black calf Sportif, which is soft and adapts to your feet from the beginning, it is a leather that feels firm at the beginning, but it is a leather soaked with plenty of oil, so it will adapt to your feet firmly as you wear it.
This baketta leather is finished in a deep colour with plenty of oil. The finely embossed shibe feels like it is also connected to the hand-kneaded leather of the old days. Because it is a pull-up (the part where the leather is pressed or pulled is brightened by the oil inside moving), so if you wear boots and wrinkles and scratches, the shadow of the colour will emerge and the expression will deepen. It's a leather that I'm looking forward to ageing.
